Wind energy company RES (Renewable Energy Systems Group) and its subsidiary RES Skandinavien AB, based in Gothenburg, have started construction of Havsns wind farm. RES has developed and will construct and operate the project. RES will retain 25% ownership alongside HgCapital, who has acquired a 75% stake. At 95.4 MW, Havsns is the largest onshore wind farm in Sweden and an important milestone in the development of the Swedish wind energy market. It is located on forest land north of Strmsund. RES will construct the project under an EPC contract using 48 Vestas V-90 wind turbines. RES will start construction in April and commercial operation will start in phases from November 2009 to March 2010. Strmsund is proposed by the Energy Authority as a "wind power centre" and is an example of the importance of strong local support for continued development of onshore wind power in Sweden.

Every year the wind farm will make a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and will generate electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of approximately 45,000 Swedish households.

Havsnas is also a groundbreaking project as it represents the largest energy project financing in the Nordic market, where the power sector is dominated by utilities and most assets are financed on balance sheet. The long-term debt package arranged by HgCapital and RES makes this a landmark deal and sets the standard for future Swedish wind farm financings.
