Limoneira Company, an agribusiness, and community builder based in Santa Paula, is partnering with UC Santa Barbara's Donald Bren School of Environmental Science & Management to incorporate environmentally sound practices into the company's new Santa Paula East Area 1 community development.

The Bren School is the only school in the western United States to integrate science, management, law, economics, and policy as part of an interdisciplinary approach to environmental problem solving. The school is known as a leading center of research and teaching.

"With the Bren School's impressive reputation as one of the country's top environmental research institutions, we're looking forward to its input on how we can make the East Area 1 development a sustainable project," says Harold Edwards, Limoneira president and CEO. "Sustainability and stewardship have been part of Limoneira's corporate culture for over 114 years. By incorporating the Bren School's recommendations, we expect the development to be one of the most sustainable building projects in the state--using environmentally-friendly building materials, introducing renewable energy sources and  incorporating eco-friendly materials into our landscaping."

Limoneira Company is linked to the Bren School as one of the school's "Corporate Partners." Companies that share the school's commitment to sustainable enterprise can access research conducted at the school and commission specific research projects.

“The Corporate Partners program depends to a great extent on collaborations with businesses and organizations in a wide range of industries,” said Bren Corporate Liaison Marsha Marcoe. “As an innovative and highly successful agricultural entity and community builder, Limoneira brings a distinct perspective to the environmental conversation, one that will undoubtedly expand Bren students’ experience as they pursue their academic and professional goals.”
