Epic Design of Boulder, CO, has merged with Templeton James Advertising to form Epicenter Creative, a full-service ad agency.

Balance Bar Company (BBAR) and Jenny Craig Inc. (JC) announced the launch of a new line of nutritional meal bars that will take the well-known Jenny Craig brand to retail food shelves for the first time. The bars will be developed and sold nationally by BBAR and marketed under the Jenny Craig brand name.

Nutratech Inc. opened new corporate headquarters in its home city of Fairfield, NJ.

Frontier Natural Products Co-op of Boulder, CO, launched 15 new organic spice SKUs.

E-Town, the nationally syndicated radio program, said Celestial Seasonings Inc. (CTEA) contributed $50,000 to join Tom’s of Maine and Green Foods as national sponsors.

Harry’s Farmers Market Inc. (HARY) will sell its distribution facility to an unnamed company that purchases and manages such facilities across the nation. Harry’s will receive $5.3 million plus some equipment from the building. Proceeds will repay about $2.75 million on a mortgage note and be used for working capital. HARY said it has been unable to secure the funds necessary to consummate the previously reported proposed settlement with Boston Chicken.

Worthington Foods Inc. (WFDS) said it would not use genetically modified soy beans in its Morningstar Farms brand veggie burgers. Ronald McDermott, VP of research and technology, in October told The Wall Street Journal that vegetarians “don’t understand” the technology yet.

Gaiam, a Broomfield, CO, distributor of natural health and environmental products, made fourth place on Inc. magazine’s annual list of the 500 fastest-growing privately held companies in the country. Gaiam logged 1998 sales of $30.8 million, marking an increase of 13,352% from its 1994 sales.
