GNC, Rexall See Slowdown

ZOETERMEER, The Netherlands—Numico NV, which owns both GNC and Rexall Sundown, reported that sales for both divisions had declined after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Rexall’s wholesale orders were down by 50 percent, while quarterly sales were down 18 percent from last year. In the weeks following the attack, GNC same-store sales had dropped by 8 percent to 9 percent. Comps for the quarter were off 1.8 percent. Supplements account for more than 60 percent of Numico’s sales.
