Rockville, Md.-based U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) has approved 32 Nature Made brand products made by Northridge, Calif.-based Pharmavite Corp. as part of its Dietary Supplement Verification Program (DSVP). USP's recent approval of Pharmavite's single and multi-letter vitamin and mineral products follow previous certification of Nature Made vitamin E. Pharmavite will include the DSVP mark on the front label of its approved supplements, according to a Dec. 17 announcement.
Saxtons River, Vt.-based Mediterranean Delights, maker of natural and organic foods including hummus, salads and tahini products, has a new distribution deal with United Natural Foods Inc. (Nasdaq: UNFI). UNFI will distribute Mediterranean's certified organic hummus products throughout the eastern U.S., according to a Dec. 9 announcement.
New Hope Natural Media plans to debut a global-supply marketplace pavilion at its Natural Products Expo Asia, slated for June 18 – 20, 2003, in Hong Kong. The pavilion will focus on raw materials, ingredients and technologies for the nutrition and health industries, according to a Dec. 6 announcement.
RiceX Co. (OTC BB: RICX) has a new deal with El Salvador's Ministry of Education to provide 196,000 pounds of RiceX Solubles ingredient for the country's school nutrition program. RiceX expects to earn revenues of approximately $1 million from the deal, according to a Dec. 10 announcement. School officials will mix the RiceX product with water and flavorings and serve it as a mid-morning drink to children. In Guatemala in 2001, a similar program resulted in nutritional improvement among the 66,000 school children who drank the RiceX beverage.
Kansas City, Mo.-based Indigo Wild has launched a body lotion dubbed Zum Body that is made with all-natural ingredients including shea butter, meadowfoam seed oil, organic aloe vera, organic safflower oil and mango butter. Indigo Wild makes the lotion in four scents: rosemary-mint, geranium, patchouli and frankincense and myrrh and targets $16 as the retail price for 8-oz. bottles.
Novato, Calif.-based Organic Bouquet Inc. has a new agreement with Whole Foods Market Inc. (NasdaqNM: WFMI) wherein the grocery chain will carry organic roses at 19 stores in Southern California. WFMI will carry 20 rose varieties from Organic Bouquet for $16.99 a dozen, according to a Dec. 10 announcement.
