NBJ report shows growth in supplements despite its maturing-market status.
The U.S. supplements industry grew by $680 million in 2002 to reach sales of $18.7 billion, according to Nutrition Business Journal's (NBJ) Supplement Business Report 2003. NBJ concludes that the supplements industry may be reaching maturity. Furthermore, a variety of market pressures—including declining growth and intensified competition—could mean that the market is now saturated. Nonetheless, the industry's 2002 growth exceeded that of the economy at large.
NBJ gathered information for the report via surveys and interviews of manufacturers and suppliers and analysis of more than 40 secondary sources. More information on the 1,000-page report can be found at nutritionbusiness.com.
