"Audacious measures" necessary for solar to become commonplace, says SOAR report.

Though it has the potential to be a significant source of power in the U.S., the solar power industry is facing policy-, technology- and cost-related challenges that keep it in the niche market realm, according to a new report. The report-from the Solar Catalyst Group, a project of Washington-based Co-op America, and Clean Edge, an Oakland, Calif.-based publishing and consulting firm-outlines the requirements for advancing solar energy and calls for "bold, audacious measures that could dramatically accelerate the transition to a clean-energy future," according to a Dec. 3 Co-Op America announcement.
