U.S. companies want to block foreign entities from suing.
In the latest activity associated with a lawsuit against several vitamin sellers accused of fixing supplements prices worldwide in 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal on behalf of the vitamin companies. Initially, the case was dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction, however an appeals court ruled that the foreign companies that sued could bring an antitrust claim if they could show that the price-fixing scam affected commerce in the U.S.
The European Union has already dealt with and fined eight of the vitamin makers involved in the cartel, according to a Dec. 18 article at NutraIngredients.com.
