EarthShell Corp. (NasdaqNM: ERTH) has a new memorandum of understanding with Hood Packaging Corp. that will lead to a finalized licensing agreement by mid-February 2004. As part of the agreement, Hood will use EarthShell's technology to produce environmentally preferred disposable food packages with new generation characteristics such as grease resistance. Hood, which has the capacity to produce about $10 million in products per year, should start production during 1Q04, according to a Dec. 15 announcement.
Hood has 16 packaging manufacturing plants in the U.S. and Canada.
EarthShell says the partnership could "substantially reduce manufacturing costs by approximately 50 percent," according to the announcement. Previously, EarthShell announced manufacturing partnerships with Sweetheart Cup Co., Green Earth Packaging Inc. and Green Packaging.
