Whirlpool Vows to Reduce Green House Gas Emissions

Appliance maker will contribute to Kyoto Protocol effort by making more energy-efficient products.

Whirlpool Corp. (NYSE: WHR) says it will reduce its global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 3 percent from its 1998 emissions level by 2008. Three percent of the company's 1998 emissions amounts to 4.4 million tons. The appliance maker says that by 2008 it will increase product manufacturing by 40 percent vs. 1998 while achieving the GHG reductions.



Whirlpool says it will achieve the reduction by producing more energy-efficient home appliances, according to a Dec. 11 article at GreenBiz.com. The company announced its promise at a recent Conference of the Parties of the Kyoto Protocol in Italy.
