Summer Rayne Oakes, Model and Activist

Summer Rayne Oakes is an entomologist and environmental scientist by training. In 2000, she slung her hiking boots to her travel pack and embarked on a journey of "cause-related" odeling to push sustainability issues through fashion and media.

A Cornell University graduate, Morris K. Udall Scholar and NWF Fellow, Oakes' previous work spanned multiple disciplines, all of which were deeply imbued in environmental research. Her studies in organic contaminants & environmental health, rainforest regeneration, invasive species, landscape impact analysis, and aquatic entomology overlapped with her "modeling with a cause," for which she is largely recognized.

Oakes currently consults with a variety of clientele on market research, sustainable business, and socio-environmental communications. She travels throughout the world as a model, expert, spokesperson and partner, assisting companies and organizations with events that seek to combine style with sustainability. This past ovember, Summer Rayne helped Energy Action organize Power Shift, the largest climate change lobby day and summit in the history of the United States. In 2008-2009, she will partner with the organization again to push "Green for All," a green jobs initiative.
