GRETCHEN BLEILER
PROFESSIONAL SNOWBOARDER
FOUR-TIME X GAMES GOLD MEDALIST & OLYMPIC SILVER MEDALIST

BACKGROUND
• Gretchen Bleiler is one of the most accomplished female snowboarders in the world. As a top to her incredible list of medals and contest wins, Gretchen won the silver medal in Women’s Halfpipe at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy and set a Guinness World Record at the 2010 Winter X Games for “Most Winter X Game Gold in Women’s Superpipe Finals” (4).

• Gretchen aspired to compete in the Olympic Games from a very young age and found her passion in snowboarding at age 11. She has been riding ever since and is now recognized as a role model and pioneer in the sport.

• During the 2007/2008 season, Gretchen competed in contests with the US Snowboarding Team, winning the Abominable Snow Jam, The Breckenridge Grand Prix and the 2008 Winter X Games. She also worked on developing her all-around riding and spent more time filming for snowboard videos and shooting photos for snowboard editorial.

• In January 2008, Oakley launched the Gretchen Bleiler Collection, their first ever athletededicated signature line of outerwear, clothing, goggles and accessories.

• In the summer of 2008, Gretchen acted as the on-air host for Yahoo! Sports during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, featuring daily 3-minute updates and athlete interviews. In addition to the Olympic Games themselves, Gretchen covered the Olympic Trials for Gymnastics, Swimming, Track & Field.

• In 2008 Gretchen starred in the snowboard film, “Stance,” as well as “Uniquely” by Oakley, a 25-minute travel inspired women’s action sports film.

• Gretchen is an active spokesperson in the fight against global warming, working closely with The Climate Project, stopglobalwarming.org, The Natural Resources Defense Council and the Aspen/Snowmass Save Our Snow campaign to build awareness around the important cause. Combine that with the 100% recycled outwear suit she has designed with Oakley and the first ever Eco-Pop snowboard she created for powerhouse company K2.

• In April 2008, Gretchen founded the first-ever, all-girls annual snowboard Halfpipe competition, the COVERGIRL Snow Angels Invitational. The event includes top female snowboarders from all over the world.

• On June 19th 2009, Gretchen married her longtime boyfriend, Chris Hotell in Costa Rica.

• In early 2010, Gretchen returned to compete in her 2nd Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, holding one of the four female spots on the US Olympic Snowboard Team.

• Soon after, Gretchen was chosen by Barbie as one of "10 Women to Watch in 2010" as part of the Barbie "I can be..." campaign. Barbie’s “10 Women to Watch in 2010” salutes women who continue to innovate and forge paths to be followed by others. Each of the women chosen is a trailblazer in her respective field, has a legacy-making year ahead of her in 2010 and continues to dream big, both for herself and for a future generation of girls. As part of her role, Gretchen committed to mentoring a girl, through Barbie, in celebration of Take Our Daughters And Sons To Work Day.

• The mid-part of the year has proven particularly special in a new way, as August 2010 marked a new phase in her entrepreneurial exploration. Together with her husband Chris, Gretchen debuted her reusable/sustainable water bottle company, ALEX, found at www.alexbottle.com.

• Gretchen also enjoys surfing, mountain biking, interior design and fashion.

• Gretchen’s official website is gretchenbleiler.com.
