Denise Hamler

HamlerDenise Hamler is the director of the Co-op America Business Network, established in 1982, it is the oldest, largest and most diverse association of socially and environmentally responsible businesses with 4,000 businesses.  As co-founder of Co-op America, (100,000 consumer members)  she has held senior positions in the marketing and publications divisions.  She serves as the publisher for the organizations publications, National Green Pages, Real Money and Co-op America Quarterly.  In 2002 she launched the successful Green Festivals, a joint project with Global Exchange. She currently serves as the Director of the Green Festivals. She is also responsible for producing the Green Business Conferences in Chicago  and San Francisco for the green business sector.

Green Festivals, are a celebration of what’s working in our communities – now in five cities annually Chicago, Seattle, Denver,  Washington DC, and San Francisco.

In 2008 over 120,000 people attended – each city brings together over 400 speakers – achieving an impressive  96% resource recovery with the help of over 1,400 volunteers – making it the largest event of its kind to produce a near ZERO waste event.  The event also brings together the best in green businesses with over 400 green businesses exhibiting – all businesses are screened and approved by Co-op America – for their commitment to sustainability, ecological balance and social justice – with a focus on business as a tool for positive change and commitment to sustainable practices.

As a community activist Denise has raised over 250 million dollars for her underserved, diverse, neighborhood outside Washington DC. Her current board positions include: Social Ventures Network,  Rugmark and Green Festivals.
