John Powers
John is the founder and President of the nonprofit Alliance for Sustainable Colorado. Its mission is to advance sustainability through collaboration among nonprofits, business, government and education. A cornerstone project is its Multi-Tenant Nonprofit Alliance Center in Lower Downtown Denver, which co-locates 35 nonprofits whose missions include some aspect of sustainability. The Center has earned two US Green Building Council LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certifications and demonstrates collaboration in action and resource efficiency. The Alliance is currently working with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory on turning the Center into a model of an ultra-high energy efficient existing building. John is also a member of the Greenprint Council, a citizens' advisory committee to the Mayor of Denver's Sustainable Development Initiative, and a board member of Colorado Conservation Voters, Colorado Environmental Coalition, and Educational Foundation of America. He has experience both with grant giving and grant seeking.
