Rand Waddoups
Rand Waddoups, Senior Director, Strategy and Sustainability, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
Rand Waddoups, senior director of strategy and sustainability at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is looking after the most exciting thing happening in business today; sustainability. Several months ago, he joined a small team dedicated to building sustainable practices into every part of Wal-Mart's business strategy. They are doing this by focusing on three big goals: to create zero waste, to use 100 percent renewable energy and to bring more sustainable products to its customers.
Rand was drawn to the subject of sustainability because he is a father of two, a husband, a believer in the business opportunity of sustainability, and an old boy scout who wants to leave the world in a better state than it is today. He has a background in public service, including two years of service in the Philippines. Additionally, he has a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Arkansas and an undergraduate degree in Economics from Brigham Young University.
Before working on sustainability, he spent several years as a buyer/category manager where he worked on a broad spectrum of food products, from fresh Brussels sprouts to flaming-hot cheese puffs. As a buyer, Wal-Mart recognized him as a Buyer of the Year and the food manufacturing community voted him one of the nation’s Top Five Buyers of Frozen and Refrigerated Food.
As an advocate of sustainable practices, Rand enjoys the opportunity to teach others the personal and financial benefits of sustainability. He has chosen a Personal Sustainability Practice (PSP) to compost and plant a garden and asks, “What’s your PSP?”
