The modern consumer is torn between shopping WITH their values and FOR the best value.  The right tools can help them navigate this Value vs. Values dilemma. Purchase patterns increasingly reflect the values and standards most important to consumers. However, while standards are high, at the same time, frugality is the reality that also drives today’s savvy shopper.  This panel will explore the tools and strategies available to today’s sustainable brands to find the middle ground to move the middle (in both sales and measureable behavior change).
Jan Wikman - Director of Marketing, Ecobonus

John Rooks - CEO, Soap Group

It's time to think much, much bigger than buildings, cars and disposable gadgets--to redesign for a future when products will have to demonstrate a complete life-cycle pedigree. Learn what some of the most radical architects, environmentalists, and industrial designers are doing to change the world for the better. Just what does Futuretopia hold? Cruise ships converted into affordable housing. Roads made from recycled rubber tires. Brazilian cities with movable marketplaces. Homes that float. Here's some global inspiration, to help you do well by doing good.

These solutions require a more technological approach.  Learn how one company is applying science and technology to make better use of end-of-life materials , such as tires, to help keep material costs low, while helping the environment in the process. This is the next generation of Reduce. REUSE. Recycle.

ll. Accelerating the World's Most Unreasonable Entrepreneurs
What does an Indian entrepreneur working with tens of thousands of marginalized farmers on a highly lucrative dairy business, a small group of MIT graduates working on a market based solution to educating girls in rural Pakistan, a CNN Hero who has already brought solar energy to over 50,000 local Kenyans, and an engineer in South Africa using mobile games to promote local commerce have in common? Along with 22 other globally minded entrepreneurs from 17 countries, they have been recognized as some of the world's most promising early-stage entrepreneurs and they are convening upon Boulder at the Unreasonable Institute (www.unreasonableinstitute.org) this summer.  In this session, the President of the Unreasonable Institute, Daniel Epstein, will introduce the room to how his organization is working to effectively accelerate and invest in entrepreneurs they believe future generations will remember as having defined progress in our time.  Along with Daniel, four unreasonable entrepreneurs from four countries will take the stage to explore the struggles and opportunities of entrepreneurship when leveraged to combat some of the greatest social and environmental challenges of our time.  This session should prove to be entirely unreasonable.

LOHAS marketers know the value of terms like “biodegradable”, “environmentally-friendly”, and “recycled” – these are the buzz words that communicate the value of our product or service.  But, when you use these terms, could you be deceiving your customer?  Are you adequately verifying your environmental claims?  Your environmental marketing may be falling short based on newly proposed changes to the FTC’s Green Guides.  You can’t afford to be complacent about meeting these new guidelines, as the Commission has brought action against companies whose green marketing claims failed their standards, resulting in years of litigation and millions in court fees.    Marcos Cordero, CEO of the Green Business Bureau, will lead this highly-informative breakout session where he will cover the proposed changes and offer you tips on how you can make sure that your green claims measure up.  A must-attend for LOHAS marketers and business owners.

Sheahan will speak to the challenges and opportunities he faces in running one of the most socially responsible companies in the world. Patagonia's mission and values have proven legendary in their power to effect positive change in modern apparel manufacturing. As a side benefit, 1% of Patagonia's sales are donated to small activist groups working to preserve the global environment. But for all the company's financial and reputational success, Sheahan will show that the company's growth accelerated even faster when it brought total awareness to to the full spectrum of its real-world impacts and extreme transparency to it's daily operations. As Sheahan explains, "being green and being socially responsible are essential now, but it has become equally important to lead with mindfulness, compassion and soul. What's true in the macrocosm for companies is true in the microcosm for its leaders. There is no global transformation possible without personal transformation.
