Knowledge Cards/Events in America’s Environmental History

Last century, the movement toward environmental protection has been the attention of many people. Movies are made about environmental issues. Books are written. Research is done. And now there are hundreds of environmental groups---small to big ones--- in the United States.

These cards pick 48 main environmental events as topic. On the front of the card is a name of actual places, a picture of the State in which the event took place, and the dates. On the back of the card, there are detailed descriptions of the event and the consequences of the environmental protection effort.

The contents of these cards are actually quite intriguing. For example, in one card, there is a story of well-known activist and author Julia Butterfly. She climbed up on a 1,000 year-old redwood tree to protect it from the loggers in California in the 90s. She stayed there for over two years, receiving national and international attention! The negotiations between her and the logging company ended up in the agreement that a three acre-radius around the tree be a buffer zone.

You can either simply read each card or use it as an environmental awareness game. Their website mentions that "a portion of the proceeds earned from the sales of this deck of Knowledge Cards will be donated to International Rivers Network, Natural Resources Defense Council, and WildAid."
