Earth Cinema Circle’s DVD, 2008 Vol.2 features four environmental films. These kinds of films are often not available or are difficult to find through mainstream media sources. All films are educational and inspiring. There are two short films and two films that are each about one hour long in the DVD.

A typical American family shops where the prices of food items are seemingly cheaper than natural food stores. One of the animation films, “The True Cost of Food” spotlights the hidden facts surrounding our food, in a comical way. Are these items really this cheap? Maybe not! The monetary, societal, and environmental impacts associated with the production of non-organic foods are revealed in this film. The transportation of food from far-away production locations to the retail stores, the wide-spread use of factory farming practices, and nutrient deficient foods all end up as huge burden on our health and the environment.

Another intriguing story, “How to Save the World: One Man, One Cow, One Planet,” is a documentary in which Peter Proctor’s tireless efforts to bring back the biodynamic agriculture in India are filmed. The “Green Revolution” of agriculture, started in the 1940s, promised farmers more production of crops. It worked in the short-run; however, the wide-spread use of GMO seeds, pesticides, and chemical fertilizers killed the rich farming soil in India. Many farmers couldn’t keep their farm lands. Ironically, they needed to ask for international assistance on food supplies, often in the form of the foods they used to make well by themselves. With  biodynamic agriculture, every steps of farming is in perfect balance with nature. Soil becomes alive. Natural pesticide control-methods are in tact. Nothing is wasted.
