McClatchy Newspapers Inc., publisher of the Sacramento Bee and other newspapers in California, the Pacific Northwest and the Carolinas, will acquire Cowles Media Co., publisher of the Star Tribune in Minneapolis and Vegetarian Times, among other periodicals. The cash and stock deal creates a company with more than $1 billion in annual revenue and $30 million in expected cash flow.
