Food Industry Mergers Up in 1997

There were 300 food-industry mergers in the first half of 1997, an increase of 26% from the same period last year, according to The Food Institute. If this pace continues, industry divestitures tracked by The Food Institute in 1997 could top the 600 mark for the first time since 1989.
