The first Green Festival, sponsored by
Global Exchange,
Co-op America and
Bioneers, lured 13,000 attendees, 238 exhibitors, and 50 speakers to San Francisco on Nov. 9 - 10. The festival brought together socially and environmentally responsible businesses, community organizations focused on social justice and environmental sustainability, and “others interested in creating an alternative to the corporate-dominated, scandal-ridden, profit-at-all-costs economy,” according to an announcement from Co-op America. Co-op America says the Green Festival will expand to other major metro areas in 2003.
Global Exchange is a non-profit research, education and action center that promotes people-to-people ties around the world. Co-op America is a sustainability-oriented nonprofit consumer, business and investor organization. Bioneers runs an annual conference focused on establishing a cross-cultural, global gathering of “biological pioneers using nature to heal nature,” according to the Co-op America announcement.
