Earth Pledge, with assistance from the Environmental Protection Agency, has launched a web-based effort to bring green rooftops to New York City. Dubbed Greening Gotham, the website and program aim to be a resource for those who want to support the green roof effort. “Greening Gotham is our vision for transforming the city's rooftops from a barren and abandoned landscape into a living network of meadows and gardens,” states a recent announcement from New York-based Earth Pledge.
The organization is seeking donations. It is also urging supporters to write letters to New York City officials expressing support for the program. Green rooftops can retain storm water and reduce the so-called urban heat island effect.
